Arts Assistant

Applications for the post of Arts AssistantThis position would appeal to candidates with a genuine interest in arts administration (not frustrated actors!) and is a chance to be at the very heart of a bustling, ambitious arts organisation. There are real opportunities for the right candidate to lend their creative judgement and input to shape the work of the building, but this needs to be matched by a real capacity and capability in administrating the everyday life of a busy venue. This role has some involvement with many aspects of our varied work, and the ideal candidate will be able to cleanly and clearly help many simultaneous projects and programmes to run smoothly.Whilst we are looking for some level of experience, recent graduates will be considered, and we see this post as being a great stepping stone into the world of producing and arts administration. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing whether we might work together in the future. The Arts Assistant is responsible to the Director and will work closely with him to provide administrative and creative support for all in-house productions and programmed events. For a full job description and application form click on the link below.

Rural Touring Scheme Manager

Applications for the post of Rural Touring Scheme Manager A Rural Touring Scheme has been provided by Oxfordshire Arts Partnership, a grouping of the Oxfordshire district councils, for the last few years. The Theatre has now taken on this scheme and hopes to reformat, strengthen and grow the scheme from its current solid position. The scheme provides a programme of live performing arts – music, dance, drama etc – to smaller rural venues such as village halls and church halls, working with local volunteer promoters to book each event. Interviews for this post will be in early September, with start date in October. The initial contract is for twelve months from October 2010, in which we would hope to set up the systems by which the shows are booked by promoters, and the scheme is administered and marketed. We would also anticipate a high level of promoter development in the first year, leading towards the first public performances in the summer/autumn of 2011. The Theatre is committed to providing a well maintained and sustainable scheme, and this post would have a crucial role in setting its tone and structure. Rural Touring is by its nature a complicated affair, working with a large number of variables, and necessitating a good deal of patience and good nature when working with the community groups and volunteer promoters who make the scheme possible. But when it works, the gratitude and adulation from the audience is second to none. We are looking for candidates with the confidence and experience to lead and shape this scheme, and whilst we would hope for a good level of knowledge, experience and commitment to the arts sector, it may be that the ideal candidate has not worked in rural touring before. We are currently in discussions with stakeholders, and hope to also add the administration of our touring film programme to this role, taking it from 2.5 days per week to 3 days per week. We would also be happy to consider applications for this post in combination with the Community and Education Officer post should that suit you.
Community and Education Officer

Applications for the post of Community and Education Officer This position would appeal to candidates with a genuine interest in Community and Education in an arts environment (not someone who wants to lead workshops) and is a chance to be at the very heart of a bustling, ambitious arts organisation. There are real opportunities for the right candidate to lend their creative judgement and input to shape the work of the Community and Education Department, but this needs to be matched by a real capacity and capability in administrating the activities. This role has involvement with a wide variety of people so the successful candidate will need to possess excellent interpersonal skills and act as an advocate for the department. The ideal candidate will need to be well-organised and be able to help many simultaneous projects and programmes to run smoothly. We are a busy, characterful and well-loved theatre, cinema and arts centre in the Cotswolds, serving an annual audience of almost 50,000 people from across the region. We have an over-subscribed Youth Theatre of 200 members, a Youth Musical Theatre, Adult Drama Group, Creative Writing sessions, interactive performance workshops for babies and toddlers and a varied programme of holiday workshops. The Community and Education Department has links with local schools and supports the Theatre programme with workshops, post-show question and answer sessions and community initiatives. We intend to interview in early September, with an October start date preferred; please note that there is scope to apply to combine this post with that of Rural Touring Manager also advertised at this time.
House Manager

Applications for the post of House ManagerPart of the reason that people fall in love with The Theatre is its beautiful auditorium and buildings, and the warm, informal welcome that they receive. The Front of House service is the front line of our relationship with those we serve, and the House Manager holds a crucial management position that will set the tone, style and efficiency of this encounter. For a small building, we are very busy, and growing busier. Public activities happen not only in the auditorium and in the evening, but across a range of spaces and throughout the day. Customer service must be maintained across all these different encounters, and this post inherits a strong team of staff and volunteer ushers who strive to do so. The post is available due to retirement of the current holder and we intend to interview in September with a view to a start date in December. This might be a position similar to one you have held before, or this might be a chance to apply your broader skills in customer service and team management in a new environment. Either way, we look forward to hearing from you and seeing whether we might work together in the future. The House Manager is responsible to the Head of Operations. This is a fulltime post (thirty five hours per week), though at times additional hours may be required; hours will be worked daytime, evening and weekend according to rotas. For a full job description and application form click on the link below.

I first saw New Art Club earlier this year. They were doing a show called This Is Now and I was nervous. The poster was of two guys (Pete and Tom) in leotards and promised to take me back to the dark days of 80s pop via the medium of comic dance. Hmm.I laughed non stop for the full 60 minutes. Their new show, Big Bag of Boom, comes to The Theatre this Friday (the 9th July at 7.45pm) before heading up to the Edinburgh Festival. The company's equivalent of a 'Best of' album, it combines classic moments from the guys' last decade of award winning shows, giving fans the opportunity to see the best bits again and, for fans-who-don't-know-they-are-yet, a chance to see what they have missed. And its very funny. Tickets are just £10 and are available via our box office - 01608 642350www.newartclub.org
