Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I declare the panto season open. There should be a ceremony, like the opening of Parliament, with Mr Speaker in huge striped pantaloons and the Prime Minister in tights, slapping his thigh with a squeaky cry of “Forty miles from Brussels, and still no sign of Clegg!”

Still, here’s the next best thing. No sooner does Mr Cameron start doing dodgy, dwarf jokes than we spot the first 2010 panto and learn that it is the very one that the Prime Minister will attend en famille, the theatre being close to his constituency of Witney.

In Monday's edition of The Guardian Michael Billington and Lyn Gardner listed Chipping Norton's Pantomime in their top 5 to see!

 

" This tiny theatre is best known for its annual pantomimes and the surroundings make for a genuinely intimate experience. It should be a classy one, too, with music from West End and Broadway veteran Sarah Travis."
