Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to write to Arts Council England on our behalf.

The support has been overwhelming. Felicity Harvest and Peter Hewitt have received hundreds of fantastically empassioned responses. If you would like to see our reply to Peter Hewiit please request a copy from Caroline via the email link below.

Caroline Sharman – Director has been overwhelmed by the responses received over the past few days regarding the Arts Council decision to cut The Theatre’s funding for 2008/9. Last week we wrote to all the Friends of The Theatre asking them to write to Felicity Harvest, Executive Director of Arts Council South East so far we have received over 200 responses. MP David Cameron has pledged his full support to us, as have the Chief Executives of West Oxfordshire District Council and Oxfordshire County Council, our local councillors, local dignitaries, business leaders and the local community. The deadline for The Theatre’s official response was today for a meeting on 24th January. If you would like to register your support, please email Felicity Harvest at felicity.harvest@artscouncil.org.uk and copy Caroline in on caroline@chippingnortontheatre.com - letters

On 12 December The Theatre received a letter from Arts Council England South East stating that it is not their intention to renew funding to your organisation from the end of March 2008. We have until 24th January to appeal. Their main reasons are:

"…..we do not consider that [The Theatre] demonstrates the characteristics of a thriving organisation able to deliver strongly for Arts Council England's agenda or that it has a regional or national impact."

The Theatre has written a formal response refuting these observations.

If you wish to support our appeal, please email Felicity Harvest at felicity.harvest@artscouncil.org.uk and email a copy to caroline@chippingnortontheatre.com

Your support would be invaluable.
